of me making my first ever pig trotters in black vinegar …
of course cannot compare to my ma jie’s one lah … but I attended a cooking class and the result was v decent … so hence I just dug out the recipe and will be trying it tomorrow.
Ordered the pig trotters from my butcher already, I’ve done up the ginger and the eggs also, but i just realise my claypot is way way too small. At 3.2L, the total liquid quantity will overwhelm my pot!
See ah … 750ml X 3, that’s … 2.25 litre of water, excluding the ginger and 1kg load of pig trotters.
Still thinking how else best to prepare it - clay pot is the best, so unless i seperate into 2 portions and use my pass-me-down japanese ceramic cooking container to do the other half.
*ponder* ah well, I’ll decide what to do when it comes to the crunch tomorrow.
Ok got to sleep now - going to collect the trotters really early tomorrow (or rather today).

She’s my secondary school classmate - one of the more quiet and studious (smart!) ones who excel in her daily work and exams.
I think she was in my Sec 1 and 2 class, and in Sec 3 & 4, she was in the class before me.
Frankly speaking, I really don’t recall much - but i did remember how she looks like then, till now. It’s a snapshot that somehow that just stuck in my mind. I did remember she was very close to this other gal, Tang Wenxin. Also another sweet, smart girl.
I hadn’t seen Roubing since after the ‘O’ level results were out. She got into NJC and I didn’t. I remember telling her about my disappointment too. That was in …. 1989.
Fast forward to 2000, out of the blue, she write me a Christmas card and she wrote about what she did after she finished her studies in NJC and Uni life (she went to Perth to study). I was very touched - because I hardly think that anyone in my secondary school would want to keep in touch with me (I was considered as a weirdo).
Truth is, most of my kakis are not from primary school or secondary school. My buddies are forged from a common “weird” bond with a few guys in JC - Tommy, Jake, Alwyn and my best friend, Hui Chau. There were a few others which I still bump into on and off (that’s you, Kenneth). Not that we mix in the same group of people, but how we got to know each other and how we bonded were very different - again it was after we came out from CJC, our friendship gew even deeper - from 4 of us having to redo our “A”s together and HC and I sharing things about our lives. Anyway, this will be another tale another time, when my memory get sparked off by something else. The rest of my kakis, friends from IRC in NUS. It’s a very strange thing anyway, my hubby thinks my life is surreal and my sister thinks I have seen enough drama to write a 100 episode soap opera series.
Back to Roubing - she wrote to me and I lost her card. *sigh* I was thinking about her and her card and I was wondering how I could contact her. I tried to search by name from the Internet - nothing. Since I don’t keep in touch with anyone from secondary school, ditto. It seems, that’s the end of it.
I was back at my mum’s house last week and I was digging around my cupboard for my watch. By chance, I came across her card! Sometimes, I tend to keep the things in too safe a place and I can never remember where my safe places are ;-P
So … after close to 6 years, I am not sure if she still owns that email address she wrote, or if she is still staying at her place.
Anyway, I wrote her an email, let’s hope she gets it. *cross fingers*

The dog in my header bar is Rascal, a Miniature Schnauzer which unfortunately doesn’t look like one apparently.
More then once, I had people with MS asking “So … what breed is your dog?” (they are probably too polite to ask if he’s a X-breed).
Poor Rascal
The only reason why he doesn’t look like one is because his beard and forehands are so discoloured (still desperately trying to whiten them) and the most important reason - he has VERY VERY curly hair. So once his fur grows out - he looks like another breed of dog.
I have a horrible confession to make - i always love to go to internet shopping sites to “oohhh” and “aaahhh” at the stuff they have.
I have the urge to buy over 100 pieces of cookie cutters, bake/ cook/ cake making utensils (yes, cast iron and copper pots and pans too), and so many other what nots they have. OoOo I was eyeing a pasta machine machine too.
The trouble is, I just discovered how cheap and easy it was to ship clothes to Singapore from USA *sigh*. Recently i bought some tops from Victoria Secrets sale and I got it shipped back via VPost. I have about 8 pieces or so and it cost me S$17 only. I remember LONG TIME AGO, we once spent a bomb shipping those clothes back from USA.
So needless to say, my fingers are starting to itch and I recently bought some books from Amazon. This time is quite different though - i was so tempted to ship back via VPost but for books, i know it will be TOO PAINFUL a cost to bear!! So i got it shipped to my sister in NY, and entrusted the recipe books in her hands, so they could rustle through the pages and try the recipes. Now I am just waiting for them to come back to Singapore
