I own …. er … I’ve lost count actually …. quite a few cooking books - baking and cooking books. I’m still adding to my collection, I’ve just ordered more from Amazon!
Like all things, there will always be a favourite - like a favourite brand of chocolate to use, a favourite brand of flour to use, a favourite brand of spices, etc …
I have a favourite baking book - only that it’s actually not mine. It belongs to my brother, but since he hasn’t done any baking in a while, so I guess it’s “legally” mine now!
Very rarely, a great recipe book, with great pictures, uncomplicated steps, clear and concise directions, and of course, 99.9% of the recipes tried turned out fantastic.
This book has it all - All-Colour Baking Book, published by Cavendish House, 1983, Editorial Consultants: Maggi McCormick & Beverly LeBlanc.
I’ve tried the Pound Cake Ring - I get nothing more than raving reviews. The best of it all, the taste is just right - not too sweet, not too butterly, very well-balanced taste and texture.
The Light Fruit Cake - I actually won a consolation prize about 16 years ago for it (please do remember at that time my baking skills are still terrible - mostly only my dogs are willing to eat my creations) .
Devil’s Food Cake - the cake that sparked out my chocolate madness - fantastic even without the cream!
Last but not least (do remember I’m also a very lazy baker - I will really choose the simpliest recipes of them all!), the simply yummilicious Rich Chocolate Cream Slice that no store bake chocolate cake can beat. It will make anyone attest to the goodness of home baked cakes.
I’m going to do the pound cake on Wednesday, so look out for the recipe and pictures later!
I better cut down on my sweets and snacks to make place for the extra load of butter and carbs!
